[::..Just for my Dollie..::]
Just for my Dollie, since you asked, and of course everyone who's interested to know.
Merriam-Webster defines 'solitude' as the quality or state of being alone or remote from society. Hence, "A good companion is better than solitude, and solitude is better than an evil companion." is exactly as it described itself. Having a good friend is better than being alone. But being alone is better than having evil friends. Good friend in this context is defined as a friend who, aside from being there for you in good times and bad, is also one who has a good ahlak, and is a good Muslim. One who encourages you to do good, to abide Allah s.w.t and one who shys away from doing things that does not conform to Islamic teachings.
Shaykh AK taught us in class that you're 'religion' is that of your bosom friend. Which means, if your bosom friend is good, you will tend to be good, and if your bosom friend is bad, you will be just as bad. So, we have to careful who we take as our good friends. That is why everyone of us must have heard at least once in our lifetime our parents telling us to STAY AWAY FROM BAD COMPANIES!
Youngsters generally do not know how to sort out their feelings and emotions, hence they very easily succumb to peer pressure. Before we do anything, just think twice and ask ourselves how would it feel if our own daughter, or sons, or even our little sister would do the same thing to us. We are not perfect as we are all humans. We all have done stupid things in our lives at some point. The golden question is: "What happens if you live to regret it for the rest of your life?" But we as sisters must always remind each other constantly as a family is the basic unit of society.
Shaykh AK also taught us, if we are in a situation when we have to be with a particular evil friend and we do not have a choice but to be with her/him, for example in the case that the evil friend is your family member, or our bestest bestest friend, or a boyfriend. He said, we should leave our body there, but our hearts and minds must be with Allah s.w.t. And put in our hearts the intention of being there so we can call them to goodness and truth. And if we fear that we will be influenced by them, it is better not to see them until they promise to improve (Solitude is better than an evil friend).
Your next question was: nwae its true that human can never be satisfied with anything and most of us tend to take things for granted?
It is somewhat true, since it is the nature of man to always want the best, and to be greedy. We often forget that Allah s.w.t is our sustainer. When we were in the wombs of our mothers, the angel blew our soul onto us, and told us 4 things. And one of it was to tell us of our sustenance in this world (Lives of Man). So always be thankful to Allah s.w.t for everything that we have. I was taught that life on this earth is just temporary. Man in the olden times live up to 1000 years. One of them man was told that the Nation of Muhammad s.a.w would only live up to about 60-70 years. And this person said, "If I had a lifespan that short, I would spend the rest of my life in sujud!" Such is the conviction of man with Taqwa. So, in actual fact, the only thing we all are taking for granted is our Health and our Youth. (Health before Sickness, Young before old and life before death). When we are sick and old, not much we can do. When we are dead, sorry. Too late. Game over. :) Man, often take woman for granted and vice versa. I suppose, don't dwell on such things unless it is your husband, or wife because it is such a big waste of time.
Girl, it is not always easy to practice what we learn, or what we preach, but the bottom line is, we must ALWAYS constantly remind ourselves and our family members. No one is perfect, not me definitely. You should read the book called Lives of Man. It is my favourite book. When I feel gungho like when I malas solat, or ngaji, I will read the book to remind me how scary life in Hell will be for me, or life in kubur. But at times, when I feel hopeless and sad, I will read about the parts where it tells us about how Rasullulah s.a.w will intercede for us during Qiamah. And also how beautiful, fragrant, and peaceful the promised place is.
I will leave you with my favourite Surah. I love this to bits. Rasullulah s.a.w delivered this in his last sermon before his passing. Remember, Muslims are not perfect, Islam is.
Allah says: “...This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion...” [Sûrah al-Mâ’idah: 3]
Till then, we will meet again Insya Allah.
